Listening

Music has been a vital part of my life. I’m particularly sensitive to it. It started with the albums my parents were listening to. Gospel, rock, pop, soul. Then, I acquired my taste and leaned toward hip-hop and r&b.

My favorite artists right now are Kendrick Lamar, H.E.R., and India Shawn because, through their music, I recognize the values I share.

I listen to a wide variety of genres and artists every day.

Practice

I used to sing in my church when I was a kid. Then, I went to an academy where I was simultaneously singing, learning how to play saxophone, and studying the technical aspects of music.

Singing was my favorite part.

It is something that I’ve always loved to do.

People sometimes told me I had a lovely voice, but I didn’t believe it enough to dare.

I left that part of me on the side for a very long time, until I could reconnect with it and share my beginnings confidently after much personal development and growth.
